The Politics of Fashion

I love fashion because it is a moving, wearable piece of art. It can be subtle or controversial. But it always speaks volumes. Living in Pittsburgh, I am lucky enough to have the magnificent Andy Warhol Museum at my disposal. Which if you are someone who loves modern/contemporary art, it's like an evolving playground.

The last time I visited, the featured exhibit was the profound work of Mr. Shepard Fairey. Some of you may think you've never heard of him, however he is the artist behind the red and blue Obama 2008 campaign portraits. He is a prolific artist whose works have a pop-art feel but a political message. Mr. Fairey's artwork (which is listed under the name Obey Propaganda) is awe inspiring and has a powerful message. Even if you don't agree with his politics, his artwork can definitely be appreciated on an aesthetic level.

So what does this have to do with fashion, you ask? In the spirit of moving, wearable art Mr. Fairey's designs can be worn via his Obey Clothing line. If you like the items you see here, please visit the store website for shopping options!  http://shop.obeyclothing.com

Trends, they are a changin'

Without a doubt, Autumn is my favorite season (yes I use Autumn because the word Fall just seems lackluster) I love the color inspirations of the leaves changing, cozy sweaters, hot apple cider, and that crisp refreshing air. And I bet you thought I would leave out fashion, fashion week, and all the fabulous fall trends? Hello...this is a fashion blog!

So fashionistas & fashionistos, below I have compiled the chicest looks for Fall/Winter 2010

Blumarine RTW Fall 2010 is all about animal-inspired prints, cute little minis, and mid calf boots!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Diane von Furstenberg Fall/Winter 2010 ad campaign features menswear stripes and opaque tights.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lace is EVERYWHERE this season, including the soles of these gorgeous Cesare Paciotti heels! Love!!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have an unhealthy obsession with shoes and bags. My most favorite footwear of all, are boots. If you're like me, you NEED to check out http://www.vincecamuto.com/ Mr Camuto's line of footwear (especially boots) and bags is incredible!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ralph Lauren's Fall lines are always classic with a New England feel. All of the pieces are very put together without being too fussy. Beautiful tweed jackets, wide belts, and the beautiful floral blouses.
For all my NYC fashionistas, Mr Lauren has recently launched his flagship store, 888 Madison Avenue.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Glamour & lace at Gucci, i am always inspired by the sexy but edgy style of Gucci.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I always adore Louis Vuitton (come on, what fashion obsessed girl doesn't?) but I am head over heels in love with their Fall/Winter line this year. It has a very 40's old hollywood feel to it! Again you see a lot of lace and tweeds which is a common theme for this season. And what about those doctor's bags? Sigh!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Celine has showcased what I feel is a polished but edgy Fall line. We all know you can never go wrong with black pieces in your closet, however it can get a tad boring. Celine's RTW collection has just enough edge to give your look a air of intrigue even without adding color or bulky accesories. Tres chic.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

And last, but never least is John Galliano's magnificent house of Dior. Showcased above is the finale walk of Mr. Galliano's Haute Couture show for Fall/Winter 2010. It's like a technicolor dream! Bravo!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For those of you who aren't inspired by haute couture (don't worry, art is subjective) Dior's RTW Fall/Winter collection (below) is just as awe-inspiring but more real-life friendly. Enjoy!
